Mitral Valve Repair / Replacement

Mitral Valve Repair / Replacement

A patient may require surgery for mitral valve repair/replacement if the mitral valve is not working properly.

A minimally invasive mitral valve surgery involves the surgeon inserting tiny cameras and surgical tools through one or more small incisions made in the chest. This approach is less invasive than traditional open-heart surgery, which comprises a large incision in front of the chest.

Patients with mitral valve regurgitation or stenosis may be suited for minimally invasive mitral valve surgery. The surgeon may or may not recommend minimally invasive surgery based on several factors such as the heart condition, medical history, and lifestyle and whether other procedures are required at the time of mitral valve surgery. It is done successfully in selected patients.
