Valve Repair & Replacement
Valve Repair & Replacement
When the heart valves are damaged or don’t work properly, they may have to be repaired or replaced. Valve stenosis or stiffness and valve regurgitation or leaky valve are the conditions that cause the heart valves to function improperly.
Traditionally open-heart surgery has been used to repair or replace heart valves. In recent times, minimally invasive, including robotic procedures have also been adopted in selected patients.
The damaged valve may be repaired and supported by using a ring. Alternately the entire valve may be replaced by an artificial valve as required. Artificial valves are made either from plastic or animal/human tissue.
